Let’s Get Meta: A Microlearning on Microlearning
A microlearning designed to introduce and advocate for microlearning as a flexible, time-efficient training solution. Through research-backed insights and interactive examples, the module builds awareness, buy-in, and practical understanding of when and how to use microlearning effectively.

This training was designed for all staff across the organization, including leadership, as part of a broader effort to modernize training practices. It aimed to introduce microlearning as a new approach within the L&D team and build awareness across departments.

Training demands across the organization were high, with staff balancing required certifications, compliance training, and day-to-day responsibilities. Feedback consistently pointed to lack of time as a major barrier to completing training. At the same time, most learning needs were being addressed through multi-hour, instructor-led sessions, even when a shorter, more targeted solution would have been more effective. This project was created to introduce microlearning as a more flexible, efficient alternative and to challenge existing assumptions about how training should be delivered.

I designed and developed this microlearning in Articulate Rise as both a learning experience and a demonstration of the format itself. The content blends research, real-world examples, and interactive elements to build understanding and buy-in.
To support credibility with a highly educated, science-minded audience, I incorporated findings from industry research and learning science, including concepts such as cognitive load and chunking (e.g., Miller’s Law), as well as principles of andragogy that emphasize autonomy and relevance. I used familiar examples (like phone numbers and the alphabet) to make these concepts more accessible.
Interactive elements including flashcards and reflection prompts, encourage learners to connect the concept of microlearning to their own training needs. The design emphasizes clarity and accessibility, intentionally modeling the strengths of microlearning throughout the experience.
-
The training generated strong interest across the organization, with managers and leadership expressing enthusiasm for more flexible, time-efficient learning solutions. Following its release, the L&D team saw an increase in training requests aligned with microlearning formats. The project also helped establish microlearning as a viable approach within the organization’s broader training strategy.
